• A Compact Motor Cruiser 4P is a plainly furnished, small and low-built steel motor yacht for 2, sometimes 4 persons that does not require a navigation certificate. Small Doerak yachts are examples of this type of cruiser. The dining space can be quickly converted into a spacious berth. The vessel always comes equipped with a lavatory and a kitchen, and occasionally also with a shower. Most renters prefer to use the beautiful showers in the Frisian marinas and in municipal harbour facilities. Propulsion is provided by a fuel-economic diesel engine.

• As boats in this category require a clearance of only 2.10 m, they can navigate routes and access regions that are inaccessible to the large motor yachts. For instance, small and winding rivers such as the Luts in Gaasterland, the Linde and the Tjonger in southeastern Friesland, and the Morra-Hindeloopen route (Eleven-Cities route within the dikes).

• Compact Motor Cruisers often have an open cockpit, allowing for optimal contact with water and bank. The cockpit, which also serves as the wheelhouse, is outfitted with a cockpit tent with standing headroom. This tent can, entirely or partially, be opened or removed. Removing the tent in combination with lowering the windows reduces the height above the watermark to a mere 1.90 m! This means that practically no bridge is too low.

• Its limited length, seven to eight meters, and limited width, approximately three meters, gives the skipper an unrestricted view from the wheelhouse of all sides of the boat. Sailing and mooring are facilitated by the bow thruster, mounted below the waterline in the head of the vessel.

• This type of vessel, which usually has a rugged snub nose (bow), is suited by excellence for novices as well as advanced skippers who like to wander through nature reserves and small villages. Experience has shown that people without any sailing experience are already able to handle a Compact Motor Cruiser 4P properly after a four-hour navigation course. The Doerak motorboat or a similar vessel is for many the first step into the beautiful and very cosy Frisian waters.
