Sophisticated Design
The most important criteria for the design of the Discovery were a length of approximately 9.00 m, exceptionally good sailing properties, exterior steering with a luxury helm station, a large cockpit with spacious benches and storage space, standing headroom in the cabin with generous quarters for 4 persons, and a clearance of less than 1.70 m (min. clearance). Due to its chined construction on a flat bottom with a broad skeg, the vessel makes a rugged impression, emphasized by the stainless-steel fender strip and the pretty sheer in the superstructure. Its flat-bottomed structure gives the Discovery a classic and traditional appearance. Its large cockpit and minute clearance offer the charm of an open sloop, while providing the comfort and living space of a flat-bottomed sailing yacht of similar length. The stylish and bright interior and the cosy layout of the cabin make for a very enjoyable stay on the Discovery. The exceptionally good sailing properties make any cruise a pleasure.

Cruises in a Large Cruising Ground
The comfortable quarters facilitate an extended stay and long trips on board of the Discovery. The cruising ground encompasses all Dutch interior waterways, Lake IJssel, and the Wad. Taking the ground at low tide is a simple matter with the vessel’s flat bottom. Its limited clearance allows for passing almost all bridges on the transit routes, unlocking cruising grounds inaccessible to many other vessels.

Spacious Comfort Cabin with 4 Berths
Maple woodwork combined with teak frames has been selected for the interior (standing headroom!). This makes the interior very bright and spacious, and the teak gives it a luxury appearance. The layout of the cabin consists of two longitudinal benches with a removable drop-leaf table, an efficiently structured galley and sanitary space at the port side, and a chart table at the starboard side. The galley and chart table are furnished with a synthetic leaf. The galley is equipped with a three-burner gas stove. Cabinets have been fitted underneath the counter and benches. The refrigerator is located underneath the chart table. Shelves and storage spaces have been installed underneath the entire length of the gangways. The sleeping quarter is located in the bow and offers spacious berths for two persons. The cabin’s benches can easily be converted into two generous berths. Storage space is available underneath the beds. The toilet and shower space on the port side and a wall cabinet on the starboard side form the separation between the cabin and the sleeping quarter.

Helm Position, Cockpit, Swimming Platform, Storage for Folding Bicycles
The helm position consists of a steering pedestal, containing a hydraulic steering pump with helm. The control panel is positioned at the top of this pedestal. The control panel contains the engine instruments (tachometer/hour meter/warning lights), the joystick of the bow thruster, helm angle indicator, and the fuel gauge. The engine is operated by means of a Teleflex single-handle control situated on the side of the steering pedestal. The cockpit measures about 2.00 x 2.00 m, and offers a lot of space. The cabrio-style cockpit tent allows for sailing with the cabrio entirely folded or with a Binimi top, as well as to close the cockpit entirely in the event of inclement weather. The swimming platform can be accessed via hanging steps at the stern. The plateau is equipped with a foldable bathing ladder. The engine compartment and the after hold offer generous storage space for two folding bicycles with which the vicinity of the moorages can be explored.

Propulsion
The engine compartment underneath the cockpit floor, accessible via a large hatch, contains a 40-HP quiet diesel engine. The three-bladed propeller for propulsion, the bow thrusters, and the rudder blade in the form of a fishtail jointly ensure the easy manoeuvrability of the Discovery. The noise level in the cockpit is exceptionally low due to the very solid construction and optimal engine insulation.

Electrical Insulation
Onboard power is provided by a 12V battery of 140 AH, charged by the alternator as well as a 230V shore-power installation.
